Recommended Steel Grit/Shot Blast Media

Key Points:

  1. Top quality steel blast media (shot and grit) is critical to the performance of ROBO-BLAST.

  2. We provide top quality grit/shot to provide 30X or more recycles before the grit is expelled as dust along with coatings and rust scale.  While the cost of steel grit/shot is approx. 4X that of garnet, copper slag, Black Beauty, etc., only 1% by volume is required, therefore an average blast media savings of 95% is achieved!

  3. A typical, 35,000 m3 manually blasted tank project requires 80-90 tons of single-use mineral grit (garnet, copper slag, Black Beauty, etc.).  The same project using a ROBO-BLAST only requires 1-2 tons of steel grit/shot therefore costs of disposal/ testing/transport of the used grit waste stream is reduced by an average of 95%!

  4. Steel grit/shot provides a superior blasted surface for paint and coatings, ensuring longer coating life.

  5. Because ROBO-BLAST attaches to surfaces by suction, all dust and debris is vacuumed off during blasting, therefore  no compressed air blow-downs or rinsing of surfaces are required. Blasting & Painting can occur at the same time and reduce project schedules by an average of 80%!

GS-25 Steel Grit

Random and angular in shape.  Etches/erodes surface.  Wear is similar to steel shot, while providing a slightly less smooth surface.

- Hardness: 40-50 Rc

- Size:  0.42-1.0 mm

- Weight:  4800 kg/m3

S-330 Steel Shot

Spherical in shape. Does not etch or erode surface as aggressively as steel grit, while providing a smoother surface.

- Hardness:  40-50 Rc

- Size:  0.71-1.19 mm

- Weight:  4800 kg/m3
